Haiti is a very beautiful country. The sea, the mountains and the farmland all conspire to make it a place of great charm. However its resources are not adequate to support its people. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. The people, though poor, are joyous and their spirit is amazing. The Episcopal Church and the Sisters of St. Margaret have concentrated on helping young people to develop their capacities to the uttermost. Contributions from outside the country are essential to provide scholarships and programs.

Sr. Marie with Students.
In 1962 the sisters established the Foyer Notre Dame, a home for indigent elderly people who are alone. These persons have no home,no support, and cannot take care of themselves. There are many of these people in Haiti, as there is no government assistance for the aged. Sr. Marie Margaret is the director of the home. The Foyer presently houses seven women, and one man.The community would very much like to continue to expand this home in orderto house more people. There is a very long waiting list for beds in the home.
